Staffelberg

The mountain of the Franks
It rises an impressive 280 meters above the Main valley. Enjoy the view. The Staffelberg offers a unique panoramic view far beyond the Upper Main Valley to the Fichtelgebirge, Thuringian Forest, Franconian Forest or the Rhön.
If you would like to reach the Staffelberg on foot from our hotel, you can climb the Staffelberg through the grove, past the town hall and the Bad Staffelstein cemetery via field paths and a long hollow lane. If you are not so good or don't like walking, you can drive to Romansthal and reach the summit from there. Once you reach the high plateau, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view. You can treat yourself to refreshments in the Staffelbergklause. A visit to the Adelgundis Chapel is also a must on the hike up the Staffelberg.
The Querkel from Staffelberg
The Querkel are said to have once lived in a cave on the Staffelberg and did a lot of good for the people of the Main valley. Occasionally, the Querkel stole some of the dumplings they coveted from the housewives' cooking pots. When the dumplings began to be counted, the offended dwarves left the Staffelberg and had a ferryman take them across the Main. A fountain was erected in front of the entrance to the Obermain Therme as a memorial to the missing Querkel from Staffelberg.
Staffelberg tour
You start at the Bad Staffelstein cemetery, from where a path leads directly to the high plateau. Once at the top, after a rest in the Staffelberg Klause, you should plan a tour of the plateau, enjoy the magnificent view and take a look at the Querkel Cave and the Adelgundis Chapel. The descent via the so-called "Karlsteig" begins approx. 50 meters south of the chapel on the high plateau and leads you along an initially quite steep forest and field path into the Lautergrund to Horsdorf. The footpath and cycle path along the Lauter finally takes you back to Bad Staffelstein.
